You have two methods to choose from when adding money to your Prolific workspace. You can add money via credit / debit card or bank transfer in the Finance section of your workspace. You can access this from the selection pane on the left side of the screen.
You must fund your studies up-front by adding money to your workspace in advance of running the studies. We then manage the payments to your participants.
The quickest way to add money to your workspace is by making a card payment, which is very easy and instant. It can take a few days for bank transfers to be reflected on your workspace balance, due to our internal checks.
Please be aware that some banks / card providers may impose additional charges for international transfers or payments. Please get in touch with your bank if you would like further information related to transfer fees.
Unfortunately, we can't accept payments by cheque.
Adding money via bank/wire transfer
This method may be particularly useful for those of you hoping to receive university / institutional funding for your studies. We also accept personal transfers if these are preferred to debit / credit card payments.
Personal bank transfers
Bank transfers can currently be made in GBP or USD, depending on your location. If you wish to make a transfer in a different currency please read here for further information and let us know using the contact button at the bottom of this article.
- Log into your workspace and navigate to the Finance section. Make sure you are in the correct workspace first! You can read more about navigating between workspaces here.
- If you haven’t already, add a legal identity to your workspace. You must do this before you can add money.
- Click 'add money’ next to your account balance.
- Select the 'bank transfer' tab. Here you will find all of the information that you need to make a bank transfer to Prolific.
The bank details provided will depend on your workspace currency and location. We have used Transferwise and Lloyds for banking, but we are migrating to BlueSnap.
Transfer the required funds to Prolific in your workspace currency (£GBP or $USD) via your banking app/website using the details provided.
Remember to copy the reference number shown and include it in your transfer. This is how we pair incoming funds with your workspace, so please make sure that this is accurate!
- Once you've sent the money via your banking app / website, select 'I've sent it'.
When we've received the funds we'll credit them to your workspace. An invoice for the payment will be provided under the ‘Invoices’ section of the Finance page once the funds have been credited.

How long will it take?
This process will typically take up to 3 working days. If your transfer is not credited to your workspace within a week of payment, please contact our Support Team via the button below. It is helpful if you are able to provide evidence of the transfer with your request that shows when the payment was made, how much was transferred, and the reference used.
Institutional bank transfers (e.g. Invoicing & Purchase Orders)
If your institution will be making the bank transfer on your behalf, we advise requesting an invoice for the desired amount. This invoice will contain the relevant bank account details to be used for the transfer. Institutions typically specify the invoice reference number in their transfer and we can use this reference number to identify that the funds are intended for your workspace.
If a reference number is not provided we may be unable to immediately identify whose workspace the transfer is intended for.
If the transfer is not credited to your workspace within a week of payment and your institution has confirmed that payment has been made, please get in touch using the button below.
